Vincent Viola, owner of the Florida Panthers hockey team, was selected by President Donald Trump to serve as his Secretary of the Army, but Bloomberg reported Friday night he withdrew his nomination.
Panthers president and CEO Matthew Caldwell confirmed the reports following the team’s 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks Friday night but offered no other comments.
The report, citing two Trump administration officials and an unnamed “third person familiar with Viola’s decision,” said Viola turned down the nomination because the Wall Street billionaire is too entangled in his many businesses. He has a majority interest in Eastern Air Lines.
