The Florida Panthers announced that the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, signed forwards Greg Meireles and Matthew Wedman to one-year AHL contracts.
Meireles, 21, appeared in 48 regular season games with the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers in 2019-20, producing 65 points (31G/34A) and served as the club’s co-captain. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario, recorded an OHL career-best 36 goals and 97 points in 68 games with Kitchener during the 2018-19 season.
Originally selected by Florida in the sixth round (168th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Meireles appeared in 244 career OHL regular season games, registering 239 points (99G/140A).
