The Panthers had a good first quarter, with five players scoring in the frame led by senior Tanajah Hayes with five points. Junior Parris Atkins, senior Bineta Diatta and senior Lucia Fleta Robles all had four points in the quarter. FIU and Miami would end the period tied at 19 a piece.
Miami broke away in the second frame, scoring 21 points. The Hurricanes led going into the half 40-27.
The Panthers fought in the third quarter, holding Miami to just 5-19 shooting and 1-11 from three in the penultimate 10 minutes.
