Two FIU football players shot in drive-by in Opa-locka, cops say

Two football players were shot Thursday afternoon in a drive-by shooting in Opa-locka, police say, one of them being star running back Anthony Jones.

Jones, a junior, was struck in the face and back, according to Opa-locka police chief James Dobson. Freshman Mershawn Miller was shot in the arm with non-threatening injuries. Jones’ condition was unknown as of Thursday afternoon.

Police are looking for the suspect who they say is driving a gray 2015 Nissan Sentra. Dobson told the Miami Herald that shots rang out outside a house at 2400 N.W. 141st St.

Jones ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns in FIU’s season-opening loss to Indiana Saturday, his first game since losing the 2017 season to a knee injury.
