Two home runs, a timely sacrifice fly and solid pitching helped FIU continue its winning ways against the University of Miami, defeating the Hurricanes, 5-3, Wednesday night at FIU's newly-named ballpark -- Infinity Insurance Park.
The Panthers (6-6) have now won four of the last five games against the Hurricanes (5-7).
Diandre Amion's sacrifice fly off Daniel Federman (0-1) in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Javier Valdes with the go-ahead run. Valdes, who doubled, broke a 3-3 tie when he touched home plate.
The Panthers added an insurance run in the eighth when Eddie Silva doubled and Valdes singled him home with a high chopper single over UM first baseman Alex Toral.
