MIAMI – Junior Tevin Brewer matched a career-high with 25 points and freshman Denver Jones tabbed 20 as the FIU men's basketball team hung on for an 80-78 victory on Saturday night at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The Panthers, who led by as many as 17 points less than three minutes into the second half, survived a strong second half push from Rice, which tied the contest at 61-61 with 7:11 left in regulation.
FIU was the more physical team throughout as it outrebounded the Owls by a decisive 42-28 margin, including 12 offensive boards.
