MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The FIU softball team erased a 1-0 deficit with a four-run fifth inning and freshman slammed her first collegiate homer, while fellow freshman went the distance in the circle to pace the Panthers to a 6-1 victory over Valparaiso on Friday afternoon during the opening day of action at The Spring Games.
The Panthers (7-6) loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth when laced a double to right field to score and to put FIU ahead for good at 2-1. The Panthers added a pair of unearned runs to close out the inning and extend their lead to 4-1.
