MIAMI (Nov. 10, 2018) - The Panthers welcomed George Washington University for a two-day match play style tournament on the home turf.
The FIU Invitational which took place on Friday Nov. 9-10 marked the final fall slate of the season. The Panthers defeated the Colonials overall 7-1, which includes a clean doubles sweep 2-0.
The freshman-duo of Paulina Bakaite and Kamila Umarova set the tone on day one when they defeated Colonials Maria Siopacha and Melis Bayraktaroglu 6-3. In singles play, the Panthers dominated all but one match. Senior Maryna Veksler defeated Maria Siopacha 6-3, 6-2 and Freshman Maria Solynshkina fought hard in a long three-set match, but was out scored by Melis Bayraktaroglu 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
