Former FIU pitcher Garvin Alston was named pitching coach for the Minnesota Twins by manager Paul Molitor on Thursday.
Alston, who pitched one season at FIU in 1992, was the bullpen coach for the Oakland Athletics this season before starting the season as the pitching rehab coordinator for the San Diego Padres.
At FIU in 1992, Alston was 9-4 with a team-leading 3.84 ERA. Alston pitched five complete games for the Panthers that season, which was second on the team. Alston was also second on the team with 62 strikeouts.
After his one season at FIU, Alston was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 10th round of the 1992 MLB Draft.
