FIU’s Naomi Ruele Makes First Olympic Appearance

RIO DE JANEIRO (Aug. 12, 2016) – FIU sophomore Naomi Ruele competed on the world's biggest stage Friday, representing her home country of Botswana in the 50-meter freestyle at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Ruele posted a time of 26.23 to finish second in her heat and 47th overall in from of a world audience.

The reigning Conference USA Swimmer of the Year qualified to represent her home country with a time of 26.07 back on March 20 in a FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation) approved time trial at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
