MIAMI (Nov. 5, 2020) – FIU Athletics mourns the loss of former men's basketball head coach Marcos "Shakey" Rodriguez, who passed away at the age of 67 on Wednesday.
"We are devastated at the passing of Coach Shakey Rodriguez," current head coach Jeremy Ballard said. "He is The Godfather of South Florida basketball and one of the best basketball coaches anywhere, at any level. Coach Shakey is the first coach to truly demonstrate that sustainable success at FIU is possible while still holding records at FIU that stand to this day."
Rodriguez served as the Panthers head coach from 1995-2000.
