MIAMI (February 20, 2021) – The FIU Baseball team finished off a four-game opening weekend sweep of the St. Thomas (Minn.) Tommies in a thrilling fashion with a 3-1 win before a 9-3 victory in the weekend finale.
The Panther's four-game sweep is the first of its kind for FIU since sweeping Rutgers in four games to start the 2014 season.
Due to rain on Saturday night, Sunday's action picked up in the top of the fifth in a 1-1 game.
Dante Girardi broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth when the sophomore singled through the right side of the STU infield to score fellow middle infielder Steven Ondina to give FIU a 2-1 advantage.
