MIAMI (July 7, 2016) – FIU Athletics is committed to enhancing the overall development of its student-athletes. This past academic year, FIU student-athletes combined for over 4,700 hours of community service; an increase of 300 hours from a year ago when FIU Athletics won the inaugural NCAA Team Works Award.
"We emphasize three core areas in FIU Athletics," Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia said. "It's important that our student-athletes are champions in the classroom, champions in the community, and champions on the field. The work that our student-athletes have done this past year in the community is remarkable.
