Tyler Myrick limited Florida Atlantic to one earned run and FIU broke open a tight game with a five-run eighth inning to defeat FAU, 8-5, Saturday night at Infinity Insurance Park.
The Panthers (22-25, 11-12 Conference USA) evened the series with the Owls (31-14-1, 15-7-1 C-USA). The rubber game is Sunday at 12 p.m.
After FAU scored 11 runs in Friday's game, Myrick ruined any possible party for the Owls bats on Cinco de Mayo.
The sophomore right-hander matched his career-high in innings pitched by going 7 2/3 innings. He allowed seven hits, one earned run and struck out a career-high eight batters.
