BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 1, 2017) -- FIU softball stayed hot, scoring five runs in the first inning, and cruised to its 17th-straight victory, 5-1, over Florida Atlantic at the FAU Softball Stadium in Conference USA action. The victory is in the first of two games between the conference rivals for Saturday. FIU improves to 31-6 on the season, 7-0 in Conference USA. FAU falls to 22-12, 5-2 in league play.
The Panthers put together a devastating first inning, with the five runs on four hits and two Owls errors. After the first three batters reached on two hits and an error to load the bases, catcher Julia Gilbert (RIalto, California) walked to drive in the first run and redshirt senior outfielder Dani Mowry (Cocoa, Florida / Space Coast HS) doubled to drive in two more for the 3-0 lead with nobody out.
