Very few college football experts game the #25 Florida Gators a chance to beat the #3 Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, even though Florida had the advantage of a prime-time contest at home in The Swamp. (Editor's Note: Except us...)
Even fewer though the Gators could dominate a legit College Football Playoff contender in the biggest game to hit Gainesville in a few years or so. So much for experts...
Florida stifled the Ole Miss offense all night long, riding a 25-0 blanking in the first half to a statement 38-10 victory over their SEC rivals.
The Gators (5-0) absolutely cut off Ole Miss (4-1) and their running game at the knees all night, holding the Rebels to just 69 yards in total.
On the flip side of the coin, Gators QB Will Grier torched the Rebels secondary when it counted on Saturday -- going 24-of-29 for 271 yards and four touchdowns. Besieged by injuries, Ole Miss' vaunted "Land Shark" defense couldn't answer the bell in what could serve as an elimination game in regards to the team's College Football Playoff hopes.
Florida now has an inside track to a CFP berth, still undefeated with a top-three victory now in their back pocket. Expect them to rocket up the AP Poll on Sunday similar to the 12-spot jump Ole Miss made after beating Alabama a couple weeks back.
