It was 1998, and Ole Miss junior starter Michael White was summoned into his coach’s office.
Then-Rebels coach Rob Evans was taking the temperature of all of his players during a tough three-game losing streak that included losses by one and two points. White had accepted his role as a steady, pass-first, point guard who averaged about seven to eight points per game.
When Evans asked what could be done differently, White responded: “Coach, I think I can give you more offense.”
Evans heeded White’s advice, drawing up more plays for him, and White responded with 14 points to lead Ole Miss to a win over Alabama.
