Florida’s Jim McElwain has added a proven coach and recruiter to his coaching staff with the hiring of Virginia Tech secondary coach Torrian Gray.
Gray’s hiring became official Thursday afternoon from Virginia Tech announcing Gray’s departure to Florida. The Sun and other media outlets confirmed the hire Wednesday night.
Gray, who spent the past 10 years coaching the Hokies’ secondary under Frank Beamer, will have the same responsibility with the Gators. He replaces Kirk Callahan, who was fired in January after one season at UF.
Gray, 41, grew up in Lakeland and played football at Kathleen High and later at Virginia Tech.
