GAINESVILLE — UF cornerback Avery Helm’s speed is his selling point, yet few expected him to race past the competition and into a starting role for the Gators.
Helm, a redshirt freshman from Texas, arrived as a middle-of-the-pack member of the 2019 class, lagging in the rankings well behind fellow incoming cornerbacks Jahari Rogers and Ethan Pouncey, each among the top-10 recruits at the position per 247Sports.
Rogers, also a native of Texas, since transferred to SMU while Pouncey, a former standout at Winter Park High School, continues his road back from a hip injury that ended his 2020 season.
