UF QB Kyle Trask enters NFL draft on upswing, but more traditional than others in class

GAINESVILLE — Quarterback Kyle Trask stuck it out for five years at the University of Florida and was rewarded with a record-setting senior season.

Trask’s path to success was out of the ordinary in the age of the transfer portal and players seeking greener pastures, especially at the game’s key position.

A traditional pocket passer like Trask still has a place in the professional game, but times have changed. Teams would prefer a QB with more mobility, escapability and running instincts than Trask offers.

This potentially leaves the former Gators’ star on the outside looking in for a deep quarterback class with as many as five signal callers expected to go during the first 15 selections –– Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, BYU’s Zach Wilson, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance and Alabama’s Mac Jones.
