UF football players accused in BB gun case face misdemeanor charges

The felony charges against Florida freshmen wide receivers Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells have been reduced to first-degree misdemeanor charges for criminal mischief, according to State Attorney Bill Cervone.

Cleveland and Wells were originally facing a second-degree felony charge for firing a BB gun into a dwelling on campus in July and a third-degree felony charge for property damage exceeding more than $1,000.

The two true freshmen likely are facing probation, paying restitution and court costs/fines and performing community service.

Cleveland and Wells were suspended from the opener last Saturday against UMass. UF coach Jim McElwain announced Monday that both have been reinstated and will play in Saturday’s SEC opener against Kentucky.
