Pat Dooley and Robbie Andreu have been best friends for more than 50 years, Gainesville Sun colleagues for nearly 30 and synonymous with Florida football for what seems like forever.
The two sports writers will report on their final Gators game Saturday when Kentucky visits the Swamp. Next Tuesday, they will retire from the Sun and head off into the sunset appropriately joined at the hip.
Dooley has been the newspaper’s columnist since 1987, six years before Andreu took over as the Sun’s football beat writer. The two met as members of the St. Augustine High School golf team in the 1970s.
