This spring, Franks will have to prove he can keep it.
Franks appeared to have a stranglehold on the starting job following a strong finish to the 2018 season, culminating with lopsided wins at Florida State and against Michigan in the Peach Bowl.
Mullen is not so sure.
Asked Monday how much it helps to have a so-called “QB 1” in place, Mullen replied, “Is it set? I don’t have any positions set. I’ve never had a position set. I just love competition.
