Florida’s offense was almost non-existent during two mid-week losses to South Florida and North Florida. The Gators totaled two runs during the games and struck out a combined 24 times.
On Wednesday night, coach Kevin O’Sullivan seemed perplexed by his team’s struggles at the plate.
“What’s been surprising is we’ve got some older guys that have come out of the gates pretty slow,” O’Sullivan said.
With the Gators (5-3) in danger of losing a home series to Miami (5-2), a freshman jump-started the offense.
Kendrick Calilao launched his sixth RBI of the weekend on Sunday during the sixth inning, putting the Gators ahead 3-1.
