DESTIN — Whatever Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh wants to call it, UF athletics director Jeremy Foley sees it for what they really is: the latest way to gain a recruiting edge.
Harbaugh maintains satellite camps are a way to expose Wolverines football to players who otherwise would never get the chance.
Echoing his SEC brethren, Foley said the camps instead offer schools a chance to recruit during a so-called "dead period" — and potentially become involved with an unsavory element within the game.
Harbaugh and skeptics of the SEC's reasons to do away satellite camps wonder whether schools actually are focused on protecting their turf.
