Tyrone Young, who was a star quarterback in Ocala who became an excellent wide receiver at Florida and in the NFL, died Thursday night after a long bout with cancer. He was 55.
Young died in San Diego, where he made his home after a two-year stint (1983-84) with the New Orleans Saints. His sister, Cheryl, said the family will bring his body home to Ocala for a burial next week.
“God called him home,” she said. “He had been struggling for a couple of weeks. I came out here in July to bring him back home, but he wanted to stay close to his doctors.
