ESPN’s Tom Luginbill joined 1010 XL Jax Sports Radio’s Brent Martineau and Lauren Brooks for an interview on Thursday to discuss his recent comments regarding Florida quarterback transfer Malik Zaire. In a separate interview earlier in the week, Luginbill said Zaire, who joined the program in June, had no chance of becoming the Gators’ starting quarterback.
“I just find it very premature and odd that all of a sudden Malik Zaire is the ‘magic wand’ that’s going to come in and be the answer at quarterback,” Luginbill said. “I just don’t see that happening. He is an undersized, shotgun, spread player – has been his entire life – and he is coming into a situation where he did not enroll in the spring, he did not take part in spring workouts, he missed half the summer and now all of a sudden you’ve got to compete with a roster of quarterbacks that have been in the system, been in the locker room and oh, by the way, you’ve got to win the job in three weeks.
