Tide ends any doubt about outcome with its goal-line stand

ATLANTA – It took a goal-line stand against LSU for Florida to make the 2016 SEC championship game. Once there, it was a goal-line stand by Alabama that all but put the Gators away for good.

Down 33-16 in the third quarter, Florida drove to a first-and-goal from Alabama’s 2. But the Gators came away without a point. Alabama took over on its 2 and proceeded to drive 98 yards to make it 40-16 and deliver the knockout blow in the process.

Afterward, Alabama coach Nick Saban called it the “turning point in the game.”

“When they scored right at the end of the half, that kind of gave them the momentum,” Saban said.
