The trauma of unrealistic Florida Gator expectations

I’ll never forget the day my neighborhood in Punta Gorda, Fla., was hit by Hurricane Charley in 2004 and thinking, for a moment, that my wife and I were going to die in the cyclonic cells that engulfed our home. We knew it was bad outside, so we were grateful to have survived. Still, I dreaded the thought of walking outside to see the carnage in our neighborhood. So I took a moment and gave thanks before I opened the door.
