Spurrier not a fan of non-conference rivalries

Very odd. As fiery a competitor as he was in big games, the man Formerly Known as The Head Ball Coach doesn’t necessarily think rivalries are The Spice of Life in football. Especially those played outside the conference.

At Florida, when he was beating Georgia like Holly Holm pounding on Ronda Rousey, Steve Spurrier actually dominated Georgia so badly that it almost wasn’t a rivalry anymore.

There was plenty to hate on in the Florida-FSU series — hitting to the “Echo of the Whistle,” Darnell Dockett allegedly twisting the ankle of Earnest Graham, etc. But Spurrier never gave in to the notion that FSU was the Gators’ top rival.
