Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is a strong candidate to replace Todd Monken as the head coach at Southern Miss, several sources have told The Sun.
Nussmeier joined Jim McElwain’s staff for the 2015 season. His offense was solid before quarterback Will Grier was suspended six games into the season.
Florida struggled down the stretch offensively and finished the year ranked 112th in total offense.
National Signing Day is just six days away.
Nussmeier leaving would create two openings on McElwain’s staff. Defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan was fired earlier this month.
