Alabama opened as a 21-point favorite over Florida for this week’s SEC championship game, but the line already has climbed to 24.5, which makes it the biggest spread in the game’s 25-year history.
Florida was a 24-point favorite over Arkansas in 1995. The Gators covered, by the way, winning 34-3 on their way to a national championship loss against Nebraska.
Alabama was a 17-point favorite over the Gators last season; that was the second-highest spread in the game’s history (the Tide had opened as a 12-point favorite).
Another number to watch Saturday: Florida has scored in 359 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in FBS history (Michigan is first at 365, from 1984-04, and BYU is second at 361, from 1975-2003).
