Sports fans know that a span of five seconds can resemble an eternity in the midst of a game. Starting this fall, men’s college basketball teams will have to get used to playing each possession with five less seconds than they have had in the past.
Thirty-second shot clocks and fewer timeouts in men’s college basketball are among the changes that the NCAA approved recently. The new rules are intended to speed up the pace of games with fewer interruptions and more urgency.
For some teams that already utilize a fast-paced offense, the change may not make as big a difference compared to teams that like to slow it down.
