Florida Gators offensive line coach Mike Summers will leave the Gators to become the next offensive line coach at Louisville, reports ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.
Summers had reportedly interviewed for the same position at South Carolina, and was considered a candidate to leave Florida’s staff, with reports suggesting that Florida had pursued Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal and Philadelphia Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland as replacements for Summers.
Summers has been Florida’s offensive line coach since 2014, when Will Muschamp brought him to Gainesville from USC to replace Tim Davis. He was the only assistant coach retained from Muschamp’s 2014 staff by Jim McElwain, and had earned both praise for developing Florida’s players and cobbling together effective lines in times of crisis and criticism for a failure to elevate that line beyond effective or land premier prospects outside of five-star 2015 signee Martez Ivey.
