The day was January 2nd, 1997. In a memorable play which may have very well put Florida’s annual rivalry game with Florida State out of reach, Ike Hilliard pulled off his now-famous ‘Stop-N-Pop’ touchdown. The pass was thrown by Heisman-winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel.
One of the top plays in Florida-Florida State rivalry, the touchdown put the Gators up 23-10 and they would eventually go on to claim their first national championship 52-20.
Wuerffel threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns with Ike Hilliard the recipient of all three. He finished the game with seven catches for 150 yards.
