Florida coach Jim McElwain promoted linebacker coach Randy Shannon to defensive coordinator on Friday. He replaces Geoff Collins, who left last month to become the coach at Temple.
Shannon was the interim DC for the bowl game, and his promotion was expected.
Here’s the breakdown:
Was it the right move?
Absolutely.
Continuity was key here for McElwain, who enters a pivotal third season in 2017, and Shannon has been on his UF staff since the beginning.
Florida’s defense has been superb the past two seasons, and there’s no need to radically change direction.
