GAINESVILLE — Back in his senior year of high school, Peter Alonso had a decision to make.
Following an East Coast pro baseball tryout, Alonso received two phone calls, with 20 minutes separating the two conversations.
The first came from UF's Kevin O'Sullivan. The second was from Miami's Geno DiMare. Both head coaches had the same intention: They wanted Alonso, a top infielder at Tampa's Plant High and the No. 19 recruit in the state of Florida, to be on their team.
In the end, Alonso chose O'Sullivan and the Gators.
And even though the road has not been the smoothest, Alonso's decision is paying off.
