Florida may not have lit up the scoreboard like it did during the Steve Spurrier era. But that didn’t make the dedication of Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium before the opener Saturday against Massachusetts any less significant for the icon Gator player and coach.
Spurrier was honored throughout UF’s opening weekend, but considered Saturday night’s pregame dedication the highlight.
“Being able to thank coach (Ray) Graves, president (Bob) Bryan,” Spurrier said. “Being with my former teammates on the field. To win and to be able to win in The Swamp, that’s what you remember, and to know that your players wanted to win for the University of Florida.
