GAINESVILLE — Freshman Nelson Maldonado and junior Peter Alonso each hit a home run to lead the No. 1 Florida baseball team to a 6-0 win over No. 13 Florida State on Tuesday at McKethan Stadium.
Both were no-doubt shots over the left-field fence and sparked a nine-hit outing for the Gators (18-1), who have won 12 straight. It’s the first time UF shut out FSU in Gainesville since March 3, 1994.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the third inning on the pair of home runs, Florida doubled its score over the next two frames to seal the win.
