South Carolina offensive lineman John Simpson committed to Clemson over Florida on National Signing Day, doing so in a commitment ceremony.
Shakin the Southland has an idea of why:
As I have said before, this recruitment was almost over about three separate times where Big John just didn't pull the trigger. He wanted to take his visits and be exposed to other campuses and he really liked the coaching staff and campus at Florida. I'm told the familiarity, proximity and relationships with coaches ultimately won out.
There's probably not much more to say here: Florida failed to nab a very good out-of-state prospect from South Carolina and longtime Clemson lean that Clemson really wanted, more failing to win the lottery than anything else, and so the Gators may have to work down their wish list if they want to bring in another offensive lineman.
