McElwain’s Luke Del Rio decision might be logical, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good one

Florida coach Jim McElwain did the most logical thing he could Monday when he replaced Feleipe Franks as the team’s starting quarterback with Luke Del Rio.

It was the result of an illogical sequence.

McElwain recruited Franks away from a commitment to LSU when he was a prized four-star prospect. He’s had two spring practices and one redshirt year to groom Franks, then named Franks the starter heading into the season. But he never gave him a chance to grow.

McElwain has benched Franks in two of his three starts. Franks has thrown three touchdowns this season with one interception.
