ORLANDO — Going back more than a decade ago to stints as assistant coach at Louisville and Michigan State, Florida coach Jim McElwain understood the value of recruiting the Central Florida region.
So before speaking at a Central Florida Gator Club gathering in downtown Orlando on Wednesday night, McElwain stressed the importance of tapping into talent from the area.
“The thing that we have set since we’ve gotten here, we’ve got to do the best job of anybody in the state of Florida,” McElwain said. “The proximity, obviously, there’s really good football here, great coaches. This is a place that we’ve got to do a good job and make our hay.
