GAINESVILLE — Without Ray Graves, Jeremy Foley, Norm Carlson or Steve Spurrier might have never ended up at the University of Florida.
Without Graves, Gator athletics would have never been the same.
Foley could have returned to his native New Hampshire rather than sticking around in Florida's heat and humidity to eventually become one of the nation's top athletic directors. Carlson, a walking encyclopedia of UF history, was the sports information director in the early 1960s at Auburn when Graves convinced him to return to his alma mater. Spurrier could have gone anywhere in 1963, but he left Johnson City, Tenn.
