Florida true freshman wide receiver Josh Hammond began his college football career Saturday night in “The Swamp” and caught five passes for 38 yards in the Gators’ 24-7 win over Massachusetts.
Hammond’s strong showing in his first career college game did not come as a surprise to his high school coach, Dameon Jones.
“Just proud of him, just happy for him,” Jones told GN. “It’s just surreal because I coached his older brother, too; it’s just a great situation.”
Jones, now the coach at Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory, had been coach at nearby Hallandale High, where he coached both Josh and his brother, Frankie.
