The Florida Gators feel good about their new football coach after one season. Jim McElwain received a raise this past week, to $4.25 million annually, and it is well-deserved.
I have heard some talk shows and read some message boards where fans are saying the raise came too quick and is unsubstantiated. Whether these people are staunch Will Muschamp defenders or anti-Jeremy Foley, it seems silly. I hardly think McElwain being the sixth-highest-paid coach in the SEC is a tremendous strain on the Athletic Department at one of the top revenue-producing programs in the country. Yet some folks think it’s too soon for a raise; in their minds, the jury remains out on McElwain and his program.
