There is little doubt that Florida coach Jim McElwain has put a big emphasis on recruiting south Florida. Florida landed 10 signees out of that area in its 2017 recruiting class and already has picked up a commitment out of Miami for the 2018 class.
In addition, McElwain re-made his staff in the offseason, and it has a distinct south Florida flavor. Randy Shannon, the former Miami coach and a UM alum who grew up in Miami, was promoted to defensive coordinator from linebacker coach. The new running backs coach is JaJuan Seider, who is a native of Belle Glade, Fla.
