SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said Saturday that it was “important” to play the postponed Florida-LSU game and that “the game needs to be played.”
Sankey spoke to CBS broadcasters Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson via phone early in the second quarter of the Tennessee-Texas A&M game.
Sankey said he understood the “angst and frustration” surrounding the postponement, which was announced Thursday afternoon as Hurricane Matthew began its trek up the east coast of Florida.
He said the decision came with a “unique set of circumstances.”
Sankey said “there are a lot of options” and that “we need to come together” to find a way to play the game.
