Gators suffer gut-wrenching 72-69 overtime loss to Georgia

UF senior shooting guard Egor Koulechov called it the toughest loss of the season.

Mike White cannot recall a more gut-wrenching ending to a game during his coaching career.

All the Gators needed in order to beat Georgia Wednesday night was to execute an inbounds play or defend Georgia big man Yante Maten more than 20 feet away from the basket during the final seconds of regulation.

Instead, UF squandered an six-point lead during the final 20 minutes of regulation before falling in overtime 72-69 Wednesday in the O’Connell Center.

Officials whistled Gators’ shooting guard Jalen Hudson for traveling after a botched inbounds play to set the stage 10 seconds later for a Maten’s game-tying 3-pointer - his second 3 in the span of 12 seconds and just his 10th of the season.
