The Gators will be looking for another one at season’s end in light of Burleigh’s announcement Saturday she will retire after 26 seasons at the helm.
Burleigh will be on the sideline on Feb. 19 at home against Florida Atlantic when the Gators (2-7-1) begin an eight-match spring 2021 season — an adjustment made due to COVID-19. Having made the decision to retire from coaching, the 53-year-old wanted to give her team, her bosses and recruits early notice.
“It’s been something I’ve been debating for quite a while,” Burleigh said in a statement. “Once I finalized my decision, I felt compelled to share it.
