GAINESVILLE — Florida Gators record-holder and eight-time national champion Grant Holloway now aims to add an Olympic gold medal to his rapidly growing resumé.
Holloway is expected to be the favorite to win in Tokyo following his victory in the 110-meter high hurdles Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Holloway’s efforts including a staggering time of 12.81 seconds in the semifinals, the 23-year-old’s personal-best and just .01 seconds behind 2012 gold medalist Aries Merritt’s world record.
Fewer than two hours later, Holloway ran 12.96 to win the final comfortably ahead of Devon Allen and Daniel Roberts.
“The goal was to execute at a very high level,” Holloway told NBC Sports following his semifinal run.
